Halle Berry to star in 'Moonfall' as producers eye autumn Montreal shoot

Production scheduled for Montreal in autumn ahead of planned 2021 theatrical release.

Halle Berry will star for Roland Emmerich in the sci-fi Moonfall, which Lionsgate will distribute in North America and AGC Studios licensed internationally.

Oscar-winner Berry will play a NASA astronaut-turned-administrator whose previous space mission holds a clue about an impending catastrophe facing Earth.

After an unknown force sends the moon careening towards Earth, a crack team embarks on a last-ditch mission into space to save humanity. Josh Gad also stars.

Production is scheduled for Montreal in autumn ahead of a planned 2021 theatrical release. Emmerich co-wrote the screenplay with Harald Kloser (2012), and Spenser Cohen. Emmerich is producing Moonfall through his Centropolis Entertainment with Kloser producing through his Street Entertainment.

Executive producers are Dennis Wang, James Wang, J.P. Pettinato, Marco Shepherd, Ute Emmerich, Carsten Lorenz, and AGC Studios founder and CEO Stuart Ford.

AGC International launched pre-sales a year ago at the Cannes market, and has closed sales in China (Huayi Brothers), UK (Entertainment Film Distributors), Germany and Switzerland (Leonine), France (Metropolitan), Latin America and Spain (Sun), Italy (IIF), Australia (Roadshow), Japan (Kino Film), South Korea (Noori Pictures), Russia (Central Partnership), and Benelux (DFW).

Emmerich, Lionsgate and AGC Studios collaborated on 2019 release Midway, which grossed $125m worldwide and $69m internationally.

Berry recently wrapped her feature directorial debut Bruised in which she stars as a female MMA fighter. She won the lead actress Oscar for Monsters Ball, and recent work includes John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.
