Bristol is a major UK production hub with studios set for expansion

Filming has begun in Bristol on Amazon Prime’s second series of Alex Rider with Otto Farrant, Vicky McClure, Stephen Dillane, Brenock O’Connor and Ronke Adekoluejo.

The five-month shoot is filming on location across the city with assistance from the Bristol Film Office. Eleventh Hour Films makes the drama which is adapted from the best-selling novels by Anthony Horowitz; the second run is based on the fourth book in the series, Eagle Strike.

Horowitz also exec produces alongside Jill Green, Eve Gutierrez and series writer Guy Burt. Cast joining for the second series includes Toby Stephens, Rakie Ayola and Charithra Chandran.

Stephens, who plays tech billionaire Damian Cray,  said: “I’m really thrilled to be part of Alex Rider season 2 and working with Eleventh Hour Films again. My son loves the Alex Rider books so it’s lovely to be a part of something that he recognises and enjoys – and it’s been a while since I played a good nemesis, so I’m really look forward to being the bad guy and going toe to toe with Alex Rider.’

Bristol is a major UK production hub; the city is currently hosting filming on Stephen Merchant’s The Offenders starring Christopher Walken for BBC One and Amazon and new Sky Original drama Extinction starring Paapa Essiedu.

The Bottle Yard Studios in Bristol recently announced a major £11.8m expansion scheme with the planned addition of three new sound stages.
