Filming begins this week on The Witcher: Blood Origin for Netflix, with Sophia Brown (pictured), Laurence O’Fuarain and Michelle Yeoh.

The prequel series is set in an elven world 1200 years before Geralt of Rivia, and explores the origins of the very first Witcher.

With Series 2 of The Witcher greenlit swiftly after the launch of S1, and now the spin-off prequel, Netflix seems confident about the success of The Witcher world, created by Polish fantasy writer Andrzej Sapkowski. The series of books has been translated into 37 languages and has sold more than 15 million copies.

Declan de Barra, who was among the writers on Series 1 of The Witcher, is showrunner for the prequel drama, and also numbers among the several exec producers, as does fellow writer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. Filming on the 6 x 60 is due to run for around four months at two UK studios
