Shooting has begun in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Robots, directed by Anthony Hines and Casper Christensen and produced by Cassian Elwes and Stephen Hamel. Jack Whitehall and Shailene Woodley star.

The story centres on Charles, a womanizer, and Elaine, a gold digger. The duo learn humanity when forced to team up and pursue robot doubles of themselves.

Robots will employ around 60 New Mexico crew members, 25 New Mexico cast members and 100 local background extras.

The producers said of the location choice: “Robots’ producers choose New Mexico for its terrain and easy accessibility of working with the New Mexico Film Office. We plan to utilize locations in Albuquerque, Belen, Madrid, and Pecos New Mexico. After the initial pre-scout, the writer and directors rewrote scenes to compliment [sic] the locations.”

Amber Dodson, director, New Mexico Film Office, added: “Robots has a highly talented group of filmmakers behind it and we are happy to have them bring this story to life in New Mexico where they will utilize the unique locations and world-class crew that our state offers.”

New Mexico is a long-established production hub for both domestic and inward investment projects. In June, the film office confirmed to KFTV that production had begun on a new Netflix thriller, End of the Road, starring Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges and Queen Latifah.
