A new studio facility in Marina Bay, Quincy, Massachusetts, is set to host filming on a Whitney Houston biopic.

According to local news outlet The Patriot Ledger, three new sound stages are being built in a warehouse on a site comprising round 26,000 sq ft, 15,000 production office space and a 3-acre backlot.

The purchasers, Marina Bay Studios, have now done a deal with LA-based Compelling Pictures, owned by producers Denis O’Sullivan and Jeff Kalligheri, whose slate includes the Whitney Houston biopic I Wanna Dance with Somebody, written by Anthony McCarten and set to star British actor Naomi Ackie (pictured). The film is the first of what is planned to be a string of Hollywood features to use the facility.

O’Sullivan and Kalligheri said in a statement: “"Compelling Pictures couldn't be more elated to be working with the amazing team at Marina Studios on our projects, and look forward to bringing more films and series to Massachusetts for years to come.”

The outlet also cited Marina Studios founder and CEO Marina Cappi, who said: "In this industry, possibilities are endless and our partnership with the incredible minds at Compelling Pictures will undoubtedly result in a roster of memorable feature films and shows.”

Massachusetts’ film-friendly image is on the rise, with recent high-profile projects to have shot there including Netflix feature Don’t Look Up, with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence and Confess, Fletch, starring Jon Hamm. The state offers a tax credit of 25%.
