Amazon’s upcoming original series, The Peripheral, is set to shoot across Western North Carolina from 25 September to 22 October.
The US state is proving extremely popular with film makers on track to invest a record $409m for 2021, the largest tally since the creation of the North Carolina Film and Entertainment Grant in 2014.
The Peripheral is a time-shifting sci-fi thriller drama created by Scott B. Smith and based on a bestselling novel by William Gibson about a veteran of the US marine corps (Jack Reynor) who is hired for a security job, which he thinks is in cyberspace. His sister, Flynne (Chloe Grace Moretz) then temporarily takes his place and witnesses something that might be a murder.
Amazon Studios and Warner Bros Television are producing, in association with Kilter Films. Executive producers are Smith, director Vincenzo Natali, Nolan and Joy, Athena Wickham and Steven Hoban. Greg Plageman is executive producer and showrunner.
Yancey County’s Economic Development Commission welcomed Amazon Studios to the area as it begins filming the sci-fi thriller drama series.
“We are pleased at the opportunity to join our neighbors in Marshall, Weaverville, and Asheville in welcoming this major studio production project to our western North Carolina community,” Yancey EDC executive director Jamie McMahan stated.
North Carolina Commerce Secretary Machelle Baker Sanders recently said of the multi-million dollar revenues for 2021 that “they are great economic development wins for North Carolina. Our film industry, with its experienced production talent and compelling film locations, creates good paying jobs and positive economic impacts for our economy.”
