Bobby Farrelly’s comedy film Champions, starring Woody Harrelson, is set to film in Winnipeg, Canada from November to December.

The remake of a 2018 Spanish film is being written by Mark Rizzo and centres on a basketball team training and competing in the Special Olympics under the guidance of an imperfect but dedicated coach Marcus, played by Harrelson.

Gold Circle Films’ Paul Brooks and Jeremy Plager will serve as producers on the project, which is looking to cast local adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities for the film.

Canada is once again bursting with productions, with several big TV productions shooting in the country, including The Good Doctor, Batwoman, Charmed, Riverdale, Titans and Apple TV’series See. Plus, many films, such as horror Lullaby, Netflix’s untitled Sandra Bullock drama, Philip Noyce’s Lakewood, starring Naomi Watts, and an untitled live-action Peter Pan story for Disney+.
