California-based company Line 204 Studios' proposal to open a 546-acre film studio in Bastrop, Texas has been approved by the city’s council.

Bastrop 552 studio is expected to take six years to compete with a first phase opening targetted for August 2023. It will include 486,000 sq ft of studio space, 300,000 sq ft of warehouse and mill space and 200,000 sq ft of office space.

The multi-faceted facility will offer production facilities, sound stages, backlots, storage, and other ancillary spaces within the studios. As well as 40 acres of lodgings, 220 acres of restaurants, event spaces and recreational facilities, including a golf course, campground and greenbelt areas, which will all support the film studio use.

Bastrop City Council had previously approved the project’s site on Lovers Lane as a media production development zone where the property will be subject to tax exemptions.

Bastrop has proven popular as a filming location previously hosting productions like BoyHood, Joe, Friday The 13th and Fear The Walking Dead.

The Bastrop 552 Studio project is due to create over 1,400 jobs and generate an estimated $2bn for the local economy.
