Netflix thriller Mother starts shooting in the Canary Islands

The Spanish archipelago is proving popular, recently hosting HBO's series Kamikaze, Netflix's Midnight Sky and Apple TV series Foundation.

Filming is underway on Netflix thriller Mother starring Jennifer Lopez in the Canary Islands.

The co-production between Lopez's outfit Nuyorican Productions and Vertigo Entertainment is being directed by Niki Caro who is also behind Disney’s Mulan live-action.

Lopez will play a deadly assassin on the run who is forced to come out of hiding to protect and teach the daughter she once gave up years before how to survive. 

The main cast also includes Joseph Fiennes, Gael Garcia Bernal, and Omari Hardwick.

Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith Thomas and Benny Medina will produce for Nuyorican Productions alongside Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and Miri Yoon. Screenwriter Misha Green who was showrunner on Lovecraft Country and Benny Medina will also serve as producers, with Molly Allen as executive producer.

Netflix’s film Midnight Sky starring George Clooney recently shot on location in the Canary Islands.
