World's first space film studio to launch in 2024

Space Entertainment Enterprise (S.E.E) is producing Tom Cruise’s upcoming space film.

UK-based media company Space Entertainment Enterprise (S.E.E) has announced it will launch the world’s first content and entertainment studios and multi-purpose arena in space in late 2024.

The space station module SEE-1 will be built by spaceflight services Axiom Space which will allow producers and creatives to develop content, including, film, television, music and sports events in a low-orbit micro-gravity environment.

S.E.E co-founders Elena and Dmitry Lesnevsky are currently producing Hollywood's first motion picture filmed in outer space starring Tom Cruise, with a $200m production budget.

The space arena will also provide the venue and production infrastructure for hosting and filming third-party content and events.

SEE-1 is planned to become operational in December 2024, early in Axiom Station’s on-orbit assembly. When the station’s initial configuration is completed and it is ready to separate from the ISS in 2028, the content creation venue will comprise one-fifth of its volume.

Dmitry and Elena Lesnevsky said in a joint statement: “It will provide a unique, and accessible home for boundless entertainment possibilities in a venue packed with innovative infrastructure which will unleash a new world of creativity. With worldwide leader Axiom Space building this cutting-edge, revolutionary facility, SEE-1 will provide not only the first, but also the supreme quality space structure enabling the expansion of the two trillion-dollar global entertainment industry into low-Earth orbit.

“SEE-1 will showcase and leverage the space environment in an unprecedented way," added, Axiom chief engineer Dr. Michael Baine. "The inflatable module design provides for around six meters diameter of unobstructed pressurized volume, which can be adapted to a range of activities – including an onboard state-of-the-art media production capability that will capture and convey the experience of weightlessness with breathtaking impact."
