Apple TV+ series Sunny, starring Rashida Jones, to shoot in Japan

Sunny will mark the second collaboration for Apple, A24 and Jones following Sofia Coppola’s acclaimed film On The Rocks.

Apple TV+ dark comedy series Sunny, starring Rashida Jones, is expected to shoot in Japan.

Based on Colin O’Sullivan’s novel Dark Manual, Jones will play an American woman, Suzie, living in Kyoto, Japan, whose life is upended when her husband and son disappear in a mysterious plane crash. As consolation' she’s given one of a new class of domestic robots made by her husband’s electronics company called Sunny. Gradually, Sunny and Suzie develop an unexpected friendship, as together they uncover the dark truth of what really happened to Suzie’s family, becoming dangerously enmeshed in a world Suzie never knew existed.

The 10-episode drama from A24 is created by Katie Robbins (The Affair, The Last Tycoon, Hedy Lamarr).

Robbins, Ravi Nandan and Jess Lubben from A24 will executive produce the series alongside Jones. Lucy Tcherniak (Station Eleven,The End of the F***ing World) will also serve as director and executive producer.
