Marvel actor Anthony Mackie to build 20-acre New Orleans film studio

The facility will also house Mackie's new production company, East Studios LLC.

New Orleans native and actor Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Avengers: Infinity War, The Banker) has purchased a 20-acre site in the city to build a new film studio.

The New Orleans East facility is on the Interstate at Read Boulevard, near the Little Woods neighbourhood. It is reportedly located in an area that is "seeking revitalisation", according to Carroll Morton, director of Film New Orleans.

Construction on the studio is expected to be completed and open for business early or mid next year. Once built it will become the eighth production facility in the city. Mackie's new production company, East Studios LLC, will be housed on the site.

Local mayor, LaToya Cantrell, said: "The influx of productions will not only bring economic growth but job opportunities."

New Orleans' production hub has seen a growing demand with more than 20 film and TV projects shooting in the city recently, including Universal Pictures' Renfield, starring Nicolas Cage, Amazon Studios' The Burial, starring Jamie Foxx, and Affirm Films' George Foreman biopic The Heart of A Lion, starring Forest Whitaker.
