Netflix is set to open a Central and Eastern European (CEE) office in Warsaw later this year that will function as a hub for the region.
In a statement, Larry Tanz, Netflix EMEA’s vice president of original series, said: “The Netflix office in Warsaw is a natural next step for us and will help build long-term cooperation in the region as well as deepen existing ties, creating new opportunities for content creators and producers. The creativity and potential of the local industry make Warsaw a great place to base our business across Central and Eastern Europe.
Netflix’s slate of Polish originals includes The Woods, Sexify, Rojst ’97, David and the Elves, Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight, How I Fell in Love with a Gangster and Operation Hyacinth. The streamer has since invested over $115m (PLN 490m) and has created over 2600 jobs in Poland from original Netflix films and series produced in the region.
In addition, Netflix has consistently invested in licensing many hugely popular local titles in Czechia, Romania, Hungary, and others. Central and Eastern Europe have also become strategic production hubs for the company with major titles like Extraction 2 filmed in the Czech Republic, as well as, Shadow & Bone S1 and S2 shot in Hungary.
