National Treasure live-action series starts filming in New Mexico

The series spin-off for Disney+ is set to employ 152 local crew and around 162 native talent 

The anticipated TV series National Treasure has started principal photography in and around Santa Fe, according to the New Mexico State Film Office.

The live-action Disney+ Original series is an extension of the Nicholas Cage-led National Treasure franchise (2004-2007).

It centres on a 'brilliant and resourceful DREAMer' who embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to uncover the truth about her family's mysterious past and save a lost Pan-American treasure.

It stars newcomer Lisette Olivera, Catherine Zeta-Jones (Mask of Zorro), Zuri Reed (Law and Order: SVU), Jordan Rodrigues (Home and Away), Antonio Cipriano, Jake Austin Walker and Lyndon Smith.

Jerry Bruckheimer, Cormac and Marianne Wibberley, Jon Turteltaub, Jonathan Littman, and KristieAnne Reed executive produce the series alongside Rick Muirragui, who also serves as a writer. Mira Nair is directing and executive producing. The Disney Branded Television series, National Treasure, is produced by ABC Signature - part of Disney Television Studios.

Speaking about the project, NM State Film Office director, Amber Dodson said: “We welcome another Disney+ production and this globally-recognised property to New Mexico, along with its all-star production team and talent. New Mexico is a place for major television series such as National Treasure, and the economic impact to the state is great – television series are on the ground for months at a time, employ our residents, and utilise local businesses of all kinds.

The production is set to employ 152 New Mexico crew and approximately 160 New Mexico background talent.
