KFTV Exclusive: Underwater Filming report to launch early August

KFTV is preparing to publish a comprehensive underwater filming report, which will run as a three-part series, starting the week of 1 August.

The report will cover a range of issues including shooting in water tanks and the sea, standout underwater filming territories, latest equipment used, filming techniques, case studies of major film and TV projects, including The Matrix Resurrections, Disney's Jungle Cruise and a list of leading water tanks around the world.

We have spoken to dozens of the world's leading experts, including studio heads, underwater cameramen, gaffers, film commissions, water tank specialists, divers and more.

The report will be broken up into sections over three weeks and include the following:

Overview - analysis

This will cover how films, TV series and commercials are carrying out underwater filming, what equipment they’re using, new technology, local support, common issues/challenges, getting permits and how filming in the sea is different to doing it in water tanks. The piece will assess some of the most popular underwater filming hotspots and emerging locations. Plus assess some of the water tanks in studios around the world and how they’re breaking new ground, and feature discussions with leading experts in the field working on major projects like The Matrix and Bond.

Profiles of key underwater filming locations

This will highlight five coastal hotspots where projects can use underwater filming facilities - by location, why they’re popular, ease of shooting, quality of crew, first point of contact etc.

3 x case studies

The case studies will showcase recent stand-out film/TV projects that utilised underwater filming, including The Matrix: Resurrections, with insights from the production team about the shoots, including obstacles they faced and how they overcame them.
