Production on the sequel to 2018's horror The Nun is underway in France.

Taking to social media to announce production start, the film's producer, James Wannn, shared a behind-the-scenes picture featuring a clapperboard penned with the film's title and new director.

Wann captioned the post: “Photography has commenced on THE NUN 2 in France! With @michaelchaves performing the exorcism (directing) on this one. #theconjuringuniverse #theconjuring #thenun.“

He also tagged the main cast, including new addition Storm Reid (A Wrinkle in Time, Euphoria). Taissa Farmiga will reprise her role as Sister Irene and Bonnie Aarons will return as Valak, the Nun. Jonas Bloquet is expected to return as Maurice 'Frenchie' Theriault according to Wann's Instagram tags.

The upcoming horror, written by Akela Cooper, serves as the sequel to The Nun and the ninth instalment in The Conjuring Universe franchise.

It is being produced by Atomic Monster for Warner Bros. Pictures.
