Netflix action-adventure series American Primeval will film in and around Santa Fe, New Mexico, this month, and is the latest production to use the Netflix Studios in Albuquerque.

The Mark L Smith-created series, which stars Taylor Kitsch and is directed by Pete Berg, explores the birth of the American West. The production will employ more than 4,000 New Mexicans, comprising 3,420 as background talent, 750 as crew members, and 20 principal actors.

New Mexico Film Office director Amber Dodson said: “‘American Primeval’ is another high-profile series calling New Mexico home,” Dodson said. “But that’s no accident. With partners like Netflix, a universe of skilled local film professionals, diverse business partners, and a sophisticated ecosystem that can sustain large productions over many seasons, there is no doubt New Mexico will benefit from this production and feel the positive economic impacts on the film workforce to local businesses and beyond.”

“New Mexico’s investment in the film industry is paying dividends with this major Netflix series that will hire thousands of people and spend money at hundreds of small businesses,” EDD [Economic Development Department] cabinet secretary Alicia J. Keyes added.

“Our economic development strategies are working. We need to stay the course and continue to grow the film and media workforce to sustain larger productions and deliver more and better job opportunities for professionals in the industry today and those looking to build a career.
