Production is now underway at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on the second series of Sky and HBO’s House of the Dragon, with filming expected to run for around six months.

The Game of Thrones prequel explores the story of the House Targaryen, and is based on George R R Martin’s Fire & Blood.

Series 2 is co-created and exec produced by Martin and Ryan Condal; the latter is also showrunner. Also on the exec producing roster are Sara Hess, Alan Taylor, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Loni Peristere and Vince Gerardis.

Condal said: “House of the Dragon has returned. We are thrilled to be shooting again with members of our original family as well as new talents on both sides of the camera. All your favourite characters will soon be conspiring at the council tables, marching with their armies, and riding their dragons into battle. We can't wait to share what we have in store.”

Cast for season 2 includes Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans. Additional returning cast includes Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, and Matthew Needham.

As the start of shooting was confirmed, a first-look image was also released as above.

House of the Dragon originally won a straight-to-series, ten-episode order in autumn 2019, with shooting getting underway in spring 2021. Just a few days after the premiere, it was recommissioned.
