Kenan and Kel's Good Burger 2 to film in Rhode Island for Paramount+

Nickelodeon Studios' mainstays Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert will return as writers and executive producers for the sequel

The sequel to 1997's cult classic Good Burger starring comedy duo 'Kenan & Kel' is set to start filming this May in Rhode Island, US.

The original film saw a dim-witted teenager (Kel Mitchell) and his new coworker (Kenan Thompson) try to save the old burger joint they work for from failing after the opening of a brand new burger restaurant across the street, which plans to put them out of business.

26 years later, the pair will reprise their roles as the burger buddies in a direct follow up to the 90's original. The official logline reads: Dexter Reed (Thompson) is down on his luck after another one of his inventions fails. Ed (Mitchell) welcomes Dex back to Good Burger with open arms and gives him his old job back. With a new crew working at Good Burger, Dex devises a plan to get back on his feet but unfortunately puts the fate of Good Burger at risk once again.

Nickelodeon Studios greenlit the sequel last month, followed by an announcement during Thompson and Mitchell’s appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon on March 18.

Rhode Island will be home of the Good Burger 2 this May as production gets underway. The state's film office put out a casting call for actors and extras earlier this week.

Phil Traill (The Middle, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Single Drunk Female) will direct the sequel, with Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert (All That and Good Burger) serving as writers and executive producers. Nickelodeon Studios will produce the film for Paramount+ with a premiere slated for November this year.

Good Burger originated as a sketch on the Nickelodeon series All That in which Mitchell starred as Ed. It was then spun off into the 1997 film, directed by Brian Robbins and written by Dan Schneider with Kopelow and Seifert.
