Eurimages' selection includes animated, documentary, and first time features

European cinema support fund selects 33 international co-productions to finance

Eurimages, a cultural support fund of the Council of Europe, has selected 33 feature films to support.

Of the movies selected, 18 are to be directed or co-directed by women, receiving 56.36% of the total funding awarded.

The fund comes to €9.6 million (£7.7m), with Eurimages specifically supporting European co-productions. Since its founding in 1988, Eurimages has supported 2,409 co-productions with approximately €685m (£586m).

This year's selection includes veteran filmmakers and first time directors, as well as animated productions like Outfoxed (pictured) and documentaries. The countries co-producing range from Latvia to Ireland, Canada to Turkey, and more.

Films from veteran filmmakers selected include:

  • Anders Thomas Jensen Back to Reality (Denmark/Sweden)
  • Francesca Comencini First Comes Life, then the Movies (Italy/France).
  • Rúnar Rúnarsson When the Light Breaks (Iceland/Netherlands)
  • Magnus von Horn The Little Seamstress (Denmark/Poland/Sweden).
  • Cherien Dabis All That's Left of You (Germany/Cyprus)
  • Pelin Esmer Wait Till You Hear Mine (Turkey/Romania)
  • Ivana Mladenovic Sorella di Clausura (Romania/Serbia)
  • Alexis Alexiou Sea of Glass (Greece/Bulgaria/Cyprus)
  • Klemen Dvornik Block 5 (Slovenia/Czech Republic/Serbia)
  • Cecilia Verheyden Skiff (Belgium/Netherlands)
  • Ana-Felicia Scutelnicu Transit Times (Germany/Romania)
  • Ido Fluk The Girl from Köln (Germany/Poland).

Second feature films selected include:

  • Ana Asensio Goat Girl (Spain/Romania)
  • Maura Delpero Vermiglio, or the Mountain Bride (Italy/France/Belgium), 
  • Nikola Ležaić Mum (Serbia/Bulgaria/Croatia
  • Marta Bergman L'Enfant Bélier (Belgium/Canada)
  • Ameer Fakher Eldin Yunan (Germany/Canada/Italy/France) 

First time filmmakers granted the fund include:

  • Urška Djukic Little Trouble Girls (Slovenia/Italy/Croatia/France)

  • Türker Süer Brothers (Germany/Turkey)
  • Emilie Blichfeldt Cinderella's Stepsister (Norway/Denmark/Romania)
  • Denise Fernandes Hanami (Switzerland/Portugal)
  • Maria Eriksson-Hecht Kevlar Soul (Sweden/Norway/Finland)
  • Vladimir Tagic Yugo Florida (Serbia/Bulgaria/Croatia/Montenegro)
  • Jérémy Comte Paradise (Canada/France)

Animated films selected are:

  • Edmunds Jansons Born Happy (Latvia/Poland)
  • Maurice Joyce and Paul Bolger Outfoxed (Ireland/Belgium)

Documentaries include:

  • Lina Vdovîi and Radu Ciorniciuc Father (Romania/Germany/Netherlands) 
  • Isa Willinger No Mercy - The Unsparing Gaze (Germany/Austria)
  • Sun Kim and Morten Traavik North South Man Woman (Norway/Latvia)
