Today (Monday 21 August) filming on O Sole Mio (the film's provisional title) has begun. The 15th fiction feature film from Christophe Honoré will be shooting in Paris and Rome for eight weeks, wrapping on October 13.

The film stars Chiara Mastroianni (Cannes' Un Certain Regard Best Actress winner for Honoré’s On a Magical Night), Catherine Deneuve, Fabrice Luchini, Nicole Garcia, Melvil Poupaud, and Benjamin Biolay. Rémy Chevrin will serve as director of photography, and Honoré also wrote the script.

O Sole Mio follows Mastroianni's main character who, pressured from all sides by the figure of her father, decides to bring him back to life through her own self. She goes by the name of Marcello, dresses like him and asks to now be considered an actor, not an actress. The people around her believe this to be a temporary joke, but Chiara is determined not to give up her new identity.

The film is being produced by Philippe Martin and David Thion for Les Films Pelléas. It is co-produced by France 2 Cinéma and by Italy’s BiBi Film and Lucky Red and benefits from the French-Italian co-production support (led by France's Centre National du Cinéma and Italy's Cinema and Audiovisual Directorate General) and from the support of France's Cofinova and Indéfilms Soficas.
