Hideo Kojima's best-selling video game Death Stranding is being made into a live-action feature film by A24 and Kojima Productions.

The announcement was made on December 16, coinciding with Japan-based Kojima Production's eighth anniversary.

Production specifics have yet to be revealed, and there is no writer nor director attached as of writing. In a statement, Kojima said: “There are a lot of 'game adaptation films' out there but what we are creating is not just a direct translation of the game. The intention is that our audience will not only be fans of the games, but our film will be for anyone who loves cinema. We are creating a Death Stranding universe that has never been seen before, achievable only through the medium of film, it will be born.”

The movie will delve into the mysteries surrounding the apocalyptic event called the 'Death Stranding', which blurred the lines between life and death, and brought forth nightmarish creatures into a world on the brink of collapse.

The 2019 game, developed by Kojima Productions, has sold over 16 million copies world wide. It is set in the US following an apocalyptic event, which result of which sees destructive creatures begin to roam the Earth. In addition to Reedus, the video game's high-profile cast includes Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux, Guillermo del Toro, and Margaret Qualley, and the likenesses of directors Guillermo del Toro and Nicolas Winding Refn.
