Ridley Scott's ‘Gladiator 2' starring Paul Mescal wraps filming

Ridley Scott has wrapped filming on Gladiator 2 for Paramount.

Scott’s follow up to his 2000 epic Gladiator began filming in June 2023 in Morocco and the UK but was halted in Malta the following month due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Production resumed at the end of November 2023.

Gladiator 2 is produced by the director’s outfit Scott Free alongside Red Wagon Entertainment with a script from David Scarpa.

The film is set years after the original and stars Paul Mescal as the grown-up son of Lucilla, played by Connie Nielsen who returns for the sequel. Other cast include Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington, and Connie Nielsen.

Paramount is set to release the film on November 22, 2024.

The original Gladiator starred Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix and went on to win five Oscars including best picture.
