St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) will establish a National Film Commission, hoping to attract more international film and TV production to the Islands.

The commission would fall under the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Sustainable Development, and Culture.

Tourism Minister, Honourable Carlos James, made the announcement alongside other measures to grow the tourism and culture industry, at the inaugural State of the Tourism Industry Address on January 23.

The press release stated that the revamped National Cultural Foundation will work closely with the Ministry of Tourism, the Department of Culture, and the SVG Tourism Authority to facilitate the development of the regulatory framework and incentives to attract greater interest in the destination as a suitable location for motion picture production.

In 2003, St. Vincent and the Grenadines hosted productions of Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean — The Curse of the Black Pearl, which filmed in Wallilabou.
