Nadia Latif’s debut feature The Man In My Basement has entered production in Cardiff, Wales.
The thriller stars Corey Hawkins as a man living in Sag Harbour, New York who is at risk of losing his ancestral home until a mysterious man (Willem Dafoe) turns up at his door and offers to rent out his basement. It is an adaptation of a novel by Walter Mosley.
The project was first announced in 2020 and has faced several delays. Jonathan Majors was originally attached to star but was replaced by Hawkins after Majors was convicted of domestic abuse at the end of last year. The project was also affected by the SAG-AFTRA strike.
The Man In My Basement is produced by US outfit B.O.B. FilmHouse with the UK’s Protagonist Pictures and Wales-based Good Gate Media.
Hawkins’ credits include Straight Outta Compton, BlacKkKlansman and most recently, The Colour Purple.
