The first feature from Studiocanal’s Australian production arm Cultivator Films is underway.

Katie Wood’s family comedy Kangaroo is shooting on location in the Australian Red Centre town of Alice Springs, on Arrernte Country, as well as Sydney’s Bondi Beach.

Inspired by the story of the founder of the Kangaroo Sanctuary in Alice Springs, the film follows an ex-TV personality who, after getting stranded in an Outback town, teams up with an indigenous girl to rescue and rehabilitate young, orphaned kangaroos.

Ryan Corr leads the cast alongside newcomer Lily Whiteley. Other cast include Deborah Mailman, Wayne Blair, Trisha Morton-Thomas, Rachel House and Brooke Satchwell.

Kangaroo is produced by Cultivator Films in partnership with Bunya Productions and Brindle Films and executive produced by Studiocanal which is handling international sales and local distribution. Financing comes from Screen Australia in association with Screen Territory, with support from Screen NSW’s Made in NSW Fund. The film is written by Harry Cripps with additional writing from Melina Marchetta.
