The long-delayed sequel, starring Paul Mescal, was filmed in Malta, Morocco, and London

Paramount Pictures has revealed the first trailer for Ridley Scott's Gladiator II, starring Paul Mescal.

Scott also serves as producer, alongisde Michael Pruss, Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher. Gladiator II is a sequel to Gladiator, and was written by David Scarpa, from a story by Scarpa and Peter Craig.
Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen, Joseph Quinn, and Fred Hechinger star in the sequel, released 24 years after the original which starred Russell Crowe and won five Oscars including best picture.
The movie was filmed in London, Malta, and Morocco with production paused during the SAG-AFTRA strikes. Production services in Morocco were provided by Dune Films, in Malta by Latina Pictures, and with UK shipping and freight services provided by Dynamic.
The film follows a grown-up Lucius (played by Mescal) who lives with his family in Numidia. When General Marcus Acacius’ (Pedro Pascal) invades, Lucius is forced into slavery. But Lucius, inspired by the Maximus he saw as a child, decides to become a gladiator himself to challenge the rule of Emperors Caracalla (Hechinger) and Geta (Quinn).
