Ron Howard and Tom Hanks are heading to Budapest in April to film Inferno, the latest in the series of adaptations based on Dan Brown’s novels featuring Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon.

The film’s main production office will be based at Origo Film Group’s studios, a purpose-built facility close to the city centre; other European locations are set to be confirmed.

Much of the action is set in Italy, where the amnesia-riddled Langdon (Hanks) is embroiled in a new puzzle based on Dante’s Inferno and involving classical art, mysterious science and secret passages.

Felicity Jones plays Dr Sienna Brooks, with Ben Foster recently announced as the villainous Bertrand Zobrist. Sidse Babett Knudsen and Omar Sy round out the A-list cast.

Seasoned screenwriter David Koepp has penned the adaptation, which is produced by Michael De Luca, Andrea Giannetti and Brian Grazer.

Hungary’s production profile has been on the rise recently, no doubt lured in part by the increased 25% rebate, with big name features such as Ron Howard’s The Martian choosing to shoot there.

At this year’s European Film Market, Hungarian Film Fund CEO Agnes Havas was quoted as saying, I feel a pretty secure situation… The money is stable and there is a strong will for the Hungarian Film Fund to be continued.”
