Netflix has announced its backing of Norwegian horror anthology series Bloodride that will be produced by Monster Scripted in Oslo.

The drama will comprise six episodes delivered with a tongue-in-cheek tone. Atle Knudsen, a veteran of horror-tinged Norwegian TV series ZombieLars, will co-direct with Geir Henning Hopland.

Bloodride is written by Kjetil Indregard, who wrote the original Norwegian series Maniac.

“We are thrilled to partner with Kjetil, Atle, Geir and the team at Monster Scripted for this unique, local Norwegian anthology series that blends grounded horror and dark Scandinavian humour in a way that is sure to delight viewers from around the world,” said Kelly Luegenbiehl, vice president of international originals in Europe, Turkey and Africa at Netflix.

Norway has enjoyed a boosted international production profile since launching its first national filming incentive three years ago. However, the incentive has a limited film find – just €7.7m for 2019 – and has had greater success attracting co-production TV dramas rather than big-budget features.

The country has attracted occasional high-profile shoots, including serial killer movie The Snowman and key scenes for Mission: Impossible – Fallout (pictured).

A further profile boost could be on the way with news that the Norwegian Film Institute has granted incentive support of nearly €4.9m to the producers of the next James Bond movie, who are considering shooting scenes in Norway.

The new Bond film is likely to be Daniel Craig’s last of the franchise and is being directed by American filmmaker Cary Fukunaga. Production is scheduled to begin at Pinewood Studios near London early next month.
