Poland’s new filming incentive is now formally active as a 30% cash rebate for productions including features, TV shows and documentaries.

The incentive was first announced last August but formal ratification took several more months.

Features will be eligible for support when they spend the equivalent of around €580,000 on a co-production structure in 2019 – by current exchange rates – though this figure will in fact increase incrementally over the next two years, with feature producers having to spend the equivalent of around €925,000 in 2021.

Television series will need to spend the equivalent of around €230,000 per episode, a figure that is scheduled to remain static.

Per-production incentive support payments will be capped at about €3.5m.

Poland’s new programme will help boost its profile as a European production hub. The country had a strong 2018, with Netflix backing its first Polish drama, the alternate-history series 1983, and Pawel Pawlikowski’s acclaimed feature Cold War securing multiple nominations at this year’s Academy Awards and BAFTAs.
