Netflix signs production deal with Indian filmmakers Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK

Netflix has struck a multi-year creative partnership deal with Indian filmmaking duo Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK.

Under their Mumbai-based D2R Films banner, the filmmakers will develop and produce their upcoming projects for the streaming giant.

Nidimoru and Krishna previously produced 2021 Telegu-language feature Cinema Bandi, directed by Preveen Kandregula, which is streaming on Netflix and are showrunners and directors of Netflix’s upcoming comedy crime thriller series Guns And Gulaabs.

The duo also have a relationship with rival streamer Amazon Prime Video as writers and directors on two seasons of hit spy series The Family Man, starring Manoj Bajpayee. They are also creators of upcoming Amazon series Farzi and Gulkanda Tales, and will direct the India offshoot of Amazon’s Russo brothers spy series Citadel.

Known as Raj and DK, the filmmakers have worked together for the past 20 years on features such as Shor In The City, Go Goa Gone and Happy Ending.

Announcing the partnership, Monika Shergill, vice president of content for Netflix India, said: “Raj and DK are one of the most original creative voices in the country. Along with their unique and ingenious storytelling style, they are also a powerhouse studio. We are excited to continue our relationship with them for a multi-year creative partnership.”

In a joint statement, the filmmaking duo said the deal with Netflix would see them “creating big, unique stories and challenging ourselves to push the storytelling into exciting and fresh spaces.”
