Bollywood star Varun Dhawan is set to film India's extension of Prime Video's recently released global spy franchise Citadel, in Serbia.

The actor revealed the pending film schedule at the recently held IIFA Awards in Abu Dhabi on the weekend (27-28 May).

"It has been amazing working on it. We are going to be filming in Serbia. We have a month-long schedule over there with a lot of action. It is a very big series, nothing like people have seen in India yet," Dhawan, 36, told PTI during IIFA Awards and weekend.

The Original show, also starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu, is created by Raj & DK (AKA Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK) who will direct the Indian chapter of Citadel from a screenplay they co-wrote with Sita R. Menon.

"The makers are pushing the envelope. Samantha and I can't be doing something mediocre. She is one of the hardest working actors," Dhawan added.

Prime Video and the Russo Brothers conceived the Citadel universe, which will comprise various local-language productions that feed into one over-arching storyline. It is apt for the Russos, who co-directed the last two Avengers and the last two Captain America films which tied together multiple Marvel Studios narratives.

Richard Madden (Bodyguard) and Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Quantico) star alongside Stanley Tucci (The Hunger Games franchise) in the first series, which hails from AGBO and David Well and premiered in April this year.
