Jackie Chan has returned to Dubai to film action movie Vanguard with director Stanley Tong.

Chan previously shot on location in the city for his 2017 action comedy movie Kung Fu Yoga and he and Tong are working with the same local service company, Alkatraz Production, for Vanguard.

The new film has shot for 30 days in Dubai, with the support of the Dubai Film and TV Commission (DFTC), with production encompassing city locations and stage work at Dubai Studio City.

“Dubai offers a one-stop-shop of services and superior production infrastructure for filmmakers to produce movies with ease and efficiency,” said Jamal Al Sharif, chairman of DFTC.

“Entities from both the government and private sector have been working with Dubai Film and TV Commission to seamlessly facilitate the production of Vanguard.”

Dubai does not offer formal filming incentive support but the DFTC often assists international producers with bespoke packages. The Vanguard production team worked with numerous municipal agencies during the shoot, including Dubai Police, Dubai Civil Defence and Dubai Ambulance.

Nearby Abu Dhabi has a financial edge over Dubai with a 30% filming incentive package and has recently attracted shoots including Michael Bay’s big-budget Netflix action movie 6 Underground, which features Ryan Reynolds among its ensemble cast.

Tom Cruise also used the city as a base from which to perform his Halo jump stunt for Mission: Impossible – Fallout.
