Sci-fi fantasy drama The Ark, created and written by Dean Devlin, is set to shoot entirely at PFI Studios in Serbia this spring, according to the Serbia Film Commission (SFC).

The series takes place 100 years in the future when planetary colonization missions have begun as a necessity to help secure the survival of the human race. The first of these missions on a spacecraft known as Ark One encounters a catastrophic event causing massive destruction and loss of life. The remaining crew try to survive with a lack of life-sustaining supplies and loss of leadership.

Balkanic Media's Jonathan English will oversee production scheduled to begin in March.

Devlin and Jonathan Glassner will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers on the project, after working together on the fantasy series The Outpost. Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan-Wilson also join Devlin as executive produces via Electric Entertainment.

English said: "The Ark will be the first Sci-Fi show to be produced in Serbia and it’s fantastic recognition for all the Serbian filmmakers and facilities, who will be part of this exciting new production. We are also thrilled to be bringing this new show to PFI Studios which has been home to The Outpost series and many of our other productions.”

In other news, the Serbia Film Commission has joined the list of business partners of the Location Managers Guild International, with location manager Stefan Todorovic becoming the first associate member of the LMGI from the Balkans.

Todorovic's credits include CBS’s Seal Team, CW’s series The Outpost, Legendary’s upcoming The Machine and Goran Stolevski's You Won’t Be Alone.

“With over 4000 shooting days per year and increasing number of domestic productions the need for recognition of location professionals and code of conduct has become of paramount importance," says Milica Bozanic, executive director of the Serbia Film Commission. "We hope that with this milestone Serbia and capital Belgrade will continue to grow their international reputation among most desirable filming destinations in Europe.“
